CED has been at the forefront of campaign finance reform since 1999. Since that time, major battles have been won, including passage of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (BCRA) in 2002. CED was instrumental in achieving this victory by educating and mobilizing business leaders around the need for campaign finance reform and changing the perception, especially in the media, of the business community as supportive of the status quo campaign finance system.
Since the Supreme Court's ruling in early 2010 in Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission, key portions of long-standing campaign finance laws were overturned. CED is again working with business leaders to identify the best policy ideas and to increase disclosure by corporations, labor unions and trade associations.
"In this election cycle, we are saying to business people, 'don't contribute, but if you do contribute – disclose.'" - Charles Kolb, CED President |
