Improving Government Performance
One of our partners in the effort to improve the federal government, The
Government Performance Coalition, has published a new guide entitled
Getting Results: A Guide for Federal Leaders and Managers. This valuable
resource was prepared with the assistance of the Council for Excellence
in Government. More information on the guide can be found at
www.excelgov.org.
In 1999, CED initiated a joint project with the Council for Excellence in Government (CEG) to research and analyze the extent to which government decision makers, especially in Congress, link design and funding to evidence that programs are working to achieve their stated goals.
This project examines the shortcomings of the current system and identifies practical approaches to reform that would put the central emphasis of design and funding decisions on performance, not on political considerations.
The subcommittee is co-chaired by Nicholas G. Moore, Chairman of Pricewaterhouse Coopers, and John White, former Deputy Secretary of Defense and CEG Board Member, who is on the faculty of Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. The project is directed by Barry White, former Deputy Associate Director of the Office of Management and Budget. For more information please see CEG's website at http://www.excelgov.org/displayContent.asp?Keyword=prpLinking.
