In the Nation's Interest

Spotlight On: Glenn Hutchins

by CED May 12, 2015

2015 Distinguished Performance Award: The Owen B. Butler Educational Excellence Award

Current Position: Co-Founder, Silver Lake

Quote from Glenn: I was taught that "from whom much is given, much is expected".  My business career was made possible by what was "given" to me by my family, friends, teachers and colleagues as well as by the schools, businesses, communities and country in which I lived, learned and worked.  As a consequence, my wife and I founded the Hutchins Family Foundation as a means of doing what was "expected" of us. We chose education, health-care and public policy as the focus of our philanthropy and have tried to bring business disciplines to work in advancing social goals.  We are more than a little humbled by this honor but do hope that it can serve to encourage others to follow our lead.

Did you know? Glenn lived in Cairo, Egypt as a child and was evacuated together with his mother on the eve of the Six Day War in 1967.
