2013 DISTINGUISHED PERFORMANCE AWARD: The Corporate Citizenship Award

CURRENT POSITION: Chairman and CEO, General Mills

BASIS OF AWARD RECOGNITION: CED is pleased to recognize General Mills, under the leadership of Ken Powell, for its long-standing dedication to strengthening communities by fostering public-private partnerships; helping children lead healthy, active lifestyles; working to end hunger; and improving nutrition.

QUOTE FROM HONOREE: “As a food company, addressing hunger is a natural for us.”

DID YOU KNOW? During Ken’s five-year tenure as CEO, efforts to alleviate hunger – both within the U.S. and beyond – have increased significantly.
Last year, General Mills donated nearly $36 million of food products to Feeding America’s 200 food banks.

As General Mills’ international business has grown (doubling to $5.2 billion in the past five years), so too have efforts at fighting hunger around the world. Working with the Global Foodbanking Network, General Mills is feeding people and developing food banks where needed. The company also is strengthening economies and alleviating hunger through its Partners in Food Solutions initiative in Africa.
