Alan M. Dachs

President and Chief Executive Officer

Fremont Group

Corporate Citizenship Award

Alan M. Dachs is President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of Fremont Group, a San Francisco-based private investment firm that traces its roots to the early investments of Bechtel Group, Inc., a leading global engineering and construction company. Mr. Dachs serves on the Board of Directors of Bechtel Group, Inc.

During the 26 years Mr. Dachs has been President of Fremont Group, he has led the organization to an extraordinarily high level of social consciousness by encouraging a company philosophy where giving back to the community is an important aspect of Fremont’s core values and where volunteerism is a way of life. Mr. Dachs formalized the company’s charitable giving program in 1996 by forming The Fremont Group Foundation with a primary focus on charitable donations to promote education and youth and character development. Over time, the Foundation expanded its programs to include matching employee donations and contributions to civic organizations that provide for the general welfare of the community. In addition, Fremont Group supports a number of fundraisers each year which also provide leadership opportunities for its employees to manage, plan and organize a company-sponsored campaign.

Mr. Dachs serves as a director of the S. D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation, whose vision is pursued through two programs: educational programs for California’s children and youth to help them become productive, engaged citizens; and environmental programs that concentrate on the management, stewardship and conservation of California’s natural resources.

Mr. Dachs serves on a number of non-profit boards. He is Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Conference Board, and a Trustee of the Brookings Institution. Mr. Dachs is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, Chair of the Academy’s Trust and Vice Chair of its Board of Directors. He is on the Board of Trustees of MIT Corporation and serves on the Corporation Visiting Committees for the Dean for Undergraduate Education; Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences; Sponsored Research; and Chemical Engineering. Mr. Dachs serves on the Board of Trustees of The Landmark School. Mr. Dachs is Chair Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of Wesleyan University and received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the university in 2007. He has a BA from Wesleyan University and an MBA from New York University.
